Functional Capacity Assessments in Melbourne: Unlocking Your NDIS Potential
At OTAH, we know that navigating the NDIS, tracking funding, and undergoing formal assessments can sometimes feel overwhelming. We are here to change that experience entirely. It is a dedicated time for us to talk, observe how you manage your day-to-day life, discover where you naturally shine, and identify exactly where you need support.
Your NDIS plan should reflect your life and your goals. We take the stress out of the assessment process, helping you paint a clear, compelling picture for the NDIA so you get exactly the funding you need to thrive. OTAH is proud to offer the most supportive, empathetic functional capacity assessments (FCA) Melbourne has to offer.

What is an OT Functional Capacity Assessment?
An OT functional capacity assessment is essentially an occupational therapist taking a deep dive into a "day in the life" of you. We look closely at how you navigate your daily routines—how you cook, move safely around your home, manage your personal care, and access your local community.
We focus entirely on your independence. By understanding your current abilities, we can pinpoint the exact hurdles that might be holding you back. Our goal is to produce a highly detailed, evidence-based report that shows the NDIS exactly why you need specific funding, ongoing therapies, or specialised equipment to live your best life.
Why a Comprehensive FCA is Your Best Advocacy Tool
The NDIA often requests Functional Capacity Assessments and Reports when you receive a new plan, experience a change in circumstances, face upcoming life transitions, or your disability changes. Investing time in a thorough NDIS functional capacity assessment is your most powerful advocacy tool for securing a better plan.

Plan Reviews & New Plans
A high-quality FCA is the gold standard for securing the correct budget during a plan review, or when establishing the right supports for a first-time NDIS plan.

Funding for Big Changes
If you are trying to secure funding for Supported Independent Living (SIL), Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), or major Complex Home Modifications, the NDIA requires a robust FCA to justify these investments.

Assistive Technology
The report provides the clinical evidence needed to justify essential equipment, ranging from custom wheelchairs and adjustable beds to smart home technology.
Partnering with Support Coordinators & Plan Managers
We know Support Coordinators have a lot on their plates. OTAH is a reliable, fast, and highly compliant partner dedicated to making your job easier. We are the go-to clinic for a reliable functional capacity assessment Melbourne-wide, taking the administrative headache out of the reporting process.
NDIA-Ready Reports
We know exactly what NDIS planners look for. Our reports are robust, clinically justified, and clearly mapped directly to the participant's goals, drastically reducing Request for Information (RFI) pushbacks and funding delays.
Clear Communication
We keep Support Coordinators in the loop at every stage of the therapy cycle—from the initial booking and information gathering to final report delivery.

How it Works: A Casual, Comfortable Approach
The entire FCA process can take up to 15 hours of an Occupational Therapist's time, but we ensure the face-to-face components are casual, comfortable, and tailored to you.
-
Review & Preparation: Before we meet, we review reports and documentation from your other allied health professionals to gather key information.
-
Telehealth or We Can Come to You (Initial Contact & Assessment): In the comfort of your own home, we can do telehealth appointments, or we can come to you! To make you as comfortable as possible, we can accommodate your disability support needs, such as camera off, text-only, or anything else you need. Depending on the complexity of your needs, this can require 1 to 3 face-to-face sessions.
-
The Chat & Observe: We have a relaxed chat about your goals and simply observe how you perform a few everyday tasks. We might use some standardised evidence-gathering tools, but we always keep the process conversational and supportive.
-
Report Writing & Communication: We spend hours behind the scenes crafting a powerful, comprehensive report advocating for your needs. We then hand it over to you and communicate directly with the supports in your care team.
