

Home and Living Assessments
Finding the right place to live is an important step toward feeling safe, independent, and supported. Under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), there are several housing options available, depending on your needs and goals.
An Occupational Therapist (OT) completes a Home and Living Assessment to understand your strengths, support needs, daily routines, and future goals. The whole process can take up to 30 hours, with the purpose of this assessment aimed at recommending a housing and support model that best promotes your independence, safety, and quality of life.

These are the following housing types offered by the NDIA:

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA):

Is for people who have very high support needs or require specialist design features in their home (such as wheelchair access or physical
support design.



Supported Independent Living (SIL):​​

Provides daily support (for example, help with personal care, cooking, or medication) in a shared or individual living arrangement.


Are tailored arrangements, which might include living
with a host or a
housemate. Some people also live independently and receive in-home supports.
