How We Do It

We use a consistent process to setting, measuring and achieving goals.

Initial Contact Session

This session takes 2 hours and involves:

  • Your therapist will get to know you via a semi-structured interview that looks at your functioning in all aspects of daily life.

  • You and your therapist will discuss potential goals for your therapy and how we may achieve them.

  • We will have a look at your NDIS plan so that we can understand what supports you have available to you.

  • We will set up future appointments.

This session takes 1.5 hours and can involve:

  • You and your therapist will assess your goals using the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure which rates your identified OT goals on importance, performance and satisfaction.

  • Your therapist will complete standardized assessments with you, that are considered best practice, and which will evaluate your level of functioning in relation to your identified goals.

Capacity Building
Sessions

These sessions take 1.5 hours and involves focusing on the meaningful goals as identified in the initial and assessment sessions. We capacity build you to achieve your goals by:

  • Developing skills via task-specific practice whereby your meaningful activity is repetitively completed alongside your therapist.

  • Developing and implementing strategies that support your engagement and independence within your chosen activity.

  • Implementing assistive technology or home modifications in your environment so that the environment supports your abilities.

  • Providing education to you and your supports.

  • Liaising with other allied health involved in your care to ensure consistency across supports so that you can achieve your goals.

The number of capacity building sessions, and the locations where these sessions take place, can vary depending on your needs.
